Help & Info
Is it really an LED, or is it a traditional incandescent bulb? You'd certainly be forgiven for asking the question.
The four slender LED filaments clearly visible inside this golfball bulb are designed to mimic those of the popular antique traditional bulbs that were banned by the European Union in February 2016.
In the wake of this wide-ranging ban on inefficient incandescent light bulbs, manufacturers have been forced to find a way of preserving the popular antique aesthetic while abiding by the EU's definitions of efficiency. The LED golfball bulb pictured above is part of a range that has been developed by Crompton Lamps to do exactly that.
The result is a decorative bulb that offers the best of both worlds, with the gorgeous aesthetic of Edison's traditional design powered by 21st century electronics.
Where this modern LED bulb only uses 4W, the older versions it replaces would have used around 40W to produce the same 470 lumens.
Add to this a far superior nominal lifetime of 10,000 hours (as opposed to 1,000 hours) and this LED bulb has the potential to reduce your lighting bill by up to 90%, without compromising your decor in any way.
