As the name suggests, LED globes are large, round light bulbs most commonly used in commercial and hospitality industries. Their large size means they can be quite striking when used without a shade, and although they are suitable for domestic household use, they will need a suitably sized lamp or light fixture, as they are larger than the average bulb.
LED globe light bulbs are available in a range of sizes and finishes. The different sizes are G45, G80, G95, and G125, where the number refers to the diameter of the bulb in millimetres. Most LED globes are made from a heat-resistant thermal plastic, and as they are quite large, many have an opaque finish ('opal' or 'pearl') to help soften the light and reduce glare. You can also find glass, filament-style LED globes, which are designed to mimic the traditional look of incandescent bulbs, and stylish vintage ones that can act as a distinctive design feature when hung without a shade.
